urban baby m – [St. Louis Newborn Photography]
Posted on July 13, 2009
If you’ve ever seen my OTHER blog (HERE) then you know I like to work in urban areas. I’m sorry, I mean I have a LOVE AFFAIR with urban locations. And I had the idea recently that I’d love to photograph a baby in the city. But who in the world would let two crazy photographers take their infant to the city?
Oh, just our awesome and EASY GOING friend/client Kristin. Mom of Baby M.
Luckily Kim didn’t think I had totally lost my mind and when I proposed the idea to Kristin she didn’t either! Can I just say that I LOVE clients who are willing to let us PLAY and really be CREATIVE? Even if it means sticking their newborn daughter in a wet and dirty tire? Oh man!
Thanks so so much Kristin for today! And thanks also to Kim who embraced my vision and brought it to life! These sneak peeks are all via Kim who shot more than me today and was WAY faster at getting some done for the blog! She is a rockstar and the most incredible business partner I could ever have asked for.
Whew.
Enough gush for one night huh?
You just can’t imagine how excited I am to unveil these photos and PLEASE… if you are a parent and would be willing to head downtown with us one day PLEASE LET US KNOW!
And now… presenting URBAN BABY from Fresh Art Photography!

So yeah. We almost wet our pants when we saw FRESH WAREHOUSE on the side of this building! Sound like a great name for a FUTURE studio don’t you think?

Doesn’t that just make you want to go to the ghetto with us? PLEASE? HA!
AHH! I love them! So great!
you 2 jsut out do yourselves with every shoot you do! even if its in the ghetto! i love these shots and the creativity behind them! as well as the talented photogs behind the cameras! if you ever need a guinea pig, you know bryce is down!!! keep it up ladies! L.O.V.E. it!
I love your idea. How do you get the baby to stay sleeping?
holy moly! you two rock creative newborn shoots! these are ultra sweet and so unique! i love your diversity….CA-ute!
Wish I had a baby to give you guys to play with….. alas mine are too big:) Love the shots.
So totally unexpected from an infant shoot but somehow it is still adorable.
Although I would definitely want some of the cutesy traditional baby photos too, something about this appeals to me…the baby looks extra clean and perfect compared to the background. Never would have thought it would turn out so good but you guys are amazing!
I love these!
Absolutely amazing!!! I love your vision and you definitely pulled it off. Gorgeous photos!
These images totally ROCK!
Not every baby is born or lives in a pastel cocoon in the suburbs; the contrast of the freshness and innocence of a baby and the harshness and gritty-ness of ‘real life’ is breathtaking.
Thanks, ladies (photographers AND momma), for being willing to push the envelope!
LOVE them.
These pictures were thought provoking. I loved them all. What a contrast. Thanks for sharing.
These are beautiful! I love them and I think this is a really cool idea.
LOVE, LOVE, LOVE these photos!!!! You guys rock!
Words cant describe!!!!!!!!!!! i am so lovin’ this…creativity just amazes me
Oh my word…these are AMAZING!! I love that you don’t choose “typical” photo shoot locations and you’re so creative and new with every session!! P.S. you make me wish I was good at photography…I’m actually thinking of trying it out…I need a hobby (since I don’t have a job yet and I’m bored out of my mind)
I love it! If I was in St. Louis (and had a baby! … details details details!) I’d go to the ghetto with you!
These are awesome! I’ve got a newborn session this week…taking some inspiration from here!!
AWESOME idea!
The last one is my fave! Oooo… and also the second to last one. Great eye, ladies. You rock!
The roughness (in many ways – bricks, old wood, old tire) and aged look of the backgrounds juxtaposed with the pale delicacy and softness of Baby M’s skin and the exquisiteness of her gentle, trusting face make such an incredible statement, don’t you agree?
It seems to be saying that amongst the pain and decrepitude of life, there is always hope for the future.
Among other things.
