our first KENTUCKY baby – {St. Louis maternity and newborn photographers}
Posted on October 27, 2009
And I say FIRST because we have another Kentucky baby on the books this spring! So twice we’ll be in Louisville… if you’re interested in a session let us know!
Lindsey was so great, she drove up to St. Louis for her maternity session but we’ll go to her for the newborn photos of course!
I have to tell you, I’ve known Lindsey my entire life. Grew up next door to each other. And I think in my mind she is still the little girl I played with. Because seeing her through my lens was shocking.
She’s all grown up!
I mean DUH.
It was just incredible to see this gorgeous WOMAN in front of me. A mom to almost three children. A wife. A labor and delivery nurse at a bustling hospital. And so beautiful.
While I was editing I just kept going WOW.
Isn’t it funny how people sometimes get stuck in time in your brain? And as much as I look at these photos and see this incredible woman, I also still see the little girl who Abbie and I played house with and ran around outside with and shared so many childhood memories with.
Lindsey, you are so beautiful and we can’t wait to meet this little person!!!

at home with the Niehaus family – {St. Louis Family Photographers}
Posted on October 27, 2009
Last week Kim and I got to meet up with the Niehaus family at their beautiful home. We had talked about going somewhere, but ultimately, Jessica wanted to capture her family AS THEY ARE. IN THEIR HOME. DOING THEIR THING.
And that is freaking awesome.
I LOVE that.
Not one posed photo. No random places (although I do sometimes love random places!). Nothing planned or rehearsed or staged. JUST THEM. AT HOME.
We captured play time inside and out, bath time, books, bottles and bed. It was simple. And perfect.

Thanks Jessica, Brian, Gannon and Flynn!

the story of Oden – {St. Louis Family Photographers and NILMDTS}
Posted on October 27, 2009
Meet Oden:

and his wonderful family:

They hold a very very special place in my heart. I met Oden a year ago, just after midnight the day after he was born. Oden is a triplet, his brothers are Lucas and Jacob (who were also twins), and I met them that night too. You see, the boys were born at 30.5 weeks, and while that is very good for triplets, Lucas and Jacob had a very rare lung complication and passed away in their parents arms at about 14 hours old. So I had the huge honor of getting to photograph the triplets with Now I Lay Me Down To Sleep. It was a very special session in so many ways. First, the boys share a birthday with my Thomas Jacob. They were also my very first lead on-my-own session (I’d shadowed several sessions prior). And it was really a type of session you always carry with you. These boys were indescribably beautiful! I cannot imagine going through such mixed emotions, losing 2 sons and grieving that, but also trying to still be there for your surviving son and all that entails an extended NICU stay. This family would often pop in my mind, and I’d wondered how little Oden was doing, so you can imagine my joy when Mom Rachel emailed me! I hadn’t got to meet them that night. She had delivered early in the day and been up the entire time just soaking up every minute she could with the boys, and just couldn’t stay up any longer. So again, they gave Jodie & I the upmost honor of coming into their home and capturing more images of Oden as he turned a year old. And we got to meet his biggest brother, Soren, and their parents Rachel & Michael. I cannot tell you how fabulous it was to see Oden, so big and strong now! But the very best was finally getting to hug Rachel, and remember Lucas & Jacob, and hug some more, and share tears.
So we walked around their fabulous neighborhood some. And got to watch the amazing Soren, at THREE YEARS OLD, hitting just about every pitch thrown his way.. HARD!

and a lot of just being in awe of this little guy:

So thank you from the bottom of our hearts, Rachel & Michael & Soren & Oden! It was great to connect with you again and remember Lucas & Jacob!

Welcome Phoebe – {St. Louis Birth Photographers}
Posted on October 25, 2009
There are no words after you witness a birth.
A birth
Those first breaths. Those first moments of life. The smiles and tears and laughter that fill the room.
It truly is magical.
There is a photo my dad took at Parker’s birth of my mom, my MIL Terri and C’s cousin Shayne all with hands clasped to their mouths, tears on their cheeks and a look of wonder in their eyes. It was taken seconds after Parker came flying out and into the world. And I never quite understood their looks until I started photographing births.
It is truly a magical experience. It’s amazing.
And this morning at 8am I got to witness little Phoebe Marshal Dunn enter the world!
And because I really am at a loss of how to describe what I was blessed to be a part of… let’s just let the images tell the story!

Welcome Phoebe.
You are loved.

the Fairbanks girls – {St. Louis Children’s Photographers}

We met up with these adorable girls and their mom on Wednesday afternoon. Gwen not only has that FABULOUS red hair & beautiful eyes, she is seriously THE most polite girl I’ve ever met! Mom seriously needs to give pointers! And Rebecca, oh Rebecca! First off, she’s adorable beyond words and a personality out of this world! But the most impressive thing is that she has only been in the US since July and never missed a beat with understanding us and talking to us! Blew me away! Brilliant girl that had us in stitches so many times!

baby sabine – [St. Louis Newborn Photographers]

Don’t you *adore* the name Sabine? (Sorry, Bailey, Olivia was a really great name too!) And it is so perfectly fitting for such a gorgeous baby with parents, who, to say we adore is a major understatement! Remember them here and here and, oh yeah, here (did I mention we majorly adore them?!).

And as much as we adore the parents… Sabine gave us a run for our money! She did NOT want to sleep and let’s just say that when she exploded ALL OVER KIM I almost wet my pants! HA! The best part was that we had a shoot right afterwards so Kim couldn’t change! Thank goodness for layers! HA!

Sabine was just a perfect little baby though… even with all the projectile pooping! And her nursery. Oh my word her nursery. I’m still having dreams about it. Think Anthropology meets Pottery Barn Baby meets local antique store meets CRAZY TALENTED ARTIST MOMMA! Gorgeous and eclectic and when I’m rich I am hiring Bethany to come decorate my entire house!

We LOOOOOOOVE this family and couldn’t be happier for them as they welcome Sabine into the family! Beautiful Sabine. Sabine. I think I just love saying her name!
Congrats you guys!
