Baby Will | St. Louis Newborn Photographers

Today Kim and I got to do TWO big+fun things…

1. hang out with Kristie Cromie of L Photographie and

2. play in our new studio!

And both were totally awesome! As was meeting her sweet husband Mike and even sweeter little guy Will!

Kristie is a super talented photog here in St. Louis and it’s always amazing to meet other photographers… especially when you respect their work, have lots in common and can learn so much from each other. It really was the perfect session to break in the studio!

Today was the first sunny day in WEEKS but it was still too chilly to photograph Will outside all naked, which is what we were dying to do, so instead we bundled him up and shot the new family… in front of our front porch… which is funny b/c having to look around your own yard for a new and exciting location was HARD!

Luckily this family wasn’t hard to make look beautiful! Doesn’t Kristie look AH-MAZING for just having a baby 7 days ago?

Being a photographer herself, Kristie looked at our work and requested a few shots… this one with the owls was one she wanted b/c the owls are from his nursery!

Even with LOTS of awake time this little man certainly delivered the goods! He posed like a champ! AND it was AWESOME to have all of our props at hand in the studio! It is seriously going to make photographing newborns even better!

Thanks to the Cromie family for coming over today and sticking around long enough for us to get all the shots we wanted! We had a blast and can’t wait to hang out again soon!

Where to begin?

1. We have an image over at Daily Candy posted… thanks to Kristen at Hoot Design for sharing it with us!

2. Sending out a big THANK YOU to Nancy who gave us a few new props to play with!

Super cute!

3. A Fresh Art Blog shout out to JORDAN who is a loyal reader and who “really wants” to be on the blog some day! HA! So I surprised her at a soccer game recently!

As I was walking up I said, “Hey Jordan! You’re going to be on the blog!”

And check out her friend Abbie’s face behind her in the next photo! SHE wants to be on the blog too but I’m not sure THAT face is how she first wanted to show up! HA!

Someday, maybe we’ll get to shoot their senior photos so they can get a REAL spot on the blog!

4. Read THIS post on Lauri Baker’s blog this morning and THANK YOU for writing it Lauri! She’s another local photog and I love that she wrote what we ALL think ALL the time! It takes a LOT more than a good camera and a few good shots to be a photographer. But she says it perfectly!

5. Speaking of local photogs… we’re holding our FIRST EVER in-studio session for another local photog and her sweet newborn son! Can’t wait to meet Kristie and talk shop while we play in the new converted space tomorrow!

6. A LOT of people emailed about where in the world we got the heart template that is now hanging in my house (photos soon!) and we got it HERE!

7. One of our favorite artists, Jessica Rose, released an adorable set of overlays the other day! I haven’t had time to play with them b/c of my niece’s baptism this weekend and Parker’s asthma attack last night but I am already in LOVE!

8. Favorite quote of the day here in the Allen abode come from Bailey totally out of the blue… “Avery sure was brave at her BATHtism!” HA! What a great way to mix-up that word!

9. Have to say I’m a little nervous to photograph another awesome photographer’s son tomorrow! My stomach is in knots!

10. Kristie’s sneak peek will be tomorrow night if all goes as planned and so make sure you check back tomorrow night but ALSO come back Wed to SEE the new studio and get a limited time newborn discount!!!

GOOD NIGHT!

Today was a rough day. My good friend Tom Johnston brought me by an Oberweis shake tonight after reading my oh so very sad blog post today (over on my personal blog) which came at the perfect time to work with the two Excedrin I took to kick my big fat headache. And he gave me a great bit of wisdom, which only he can since they lived through HELL and I only took a day trip there… he said that when you’ve gone through something with your child that’s traumatic and then suddenly it’s over you are going to have days like this b/c for days/weeks you were TENSE and allofasudden you can relax. Which in my case can cause extreme exhaustion and massive head aches and a tendency to withdraw a bit. Thank goodness I have smart+caring friends who give out wisdom along with a tasty chocolate treat! Thanks again Tom!

So in an effort to go to bed in a better mood, since REALLY today should not be about me feeling craptastic but instead be about the fact that Parker is now sleeping, for the first time in 18 days, IV free, I’m going to link to some super cool stuff tonight! Because the picc line is OUT! And that’s cause for celebration!

———————–

1. Teachers gifts are around the corner and I bought THESE and THESE for the girl’s preschool teachers. I want some for myself!

2. Our AWESOME and busy friend Lyndsay launched this AMAZING website the other day and we just couldn’t be more proud of her! Way to rock the link love Lynds!

3. I really want to see THIS MOVIE. It looks awesome!

4. I love the idea of THIS growth chart and you could make something like this yourself pretty easily… but who doesn’t love something that comes in a cute box?

5. Kim gives me Thomas’ hand-me-downs for Gray and the clothes that she gives me from THIS store are my favorite! I had no idea it even existed and it’s a part of Gymboree! Where have I been?

6. When I saw THIS necklace I immediately thought of my sister! I love it!

7. I’m not much of a collector but I want one of each of THESE! They are adorable!

8. Mom, share this link with dad b/c he’ll think it’s awesome. Basically there is a live web cam in an owl-house (or whatever you call a bird house for owls!) and when I first found it I kept checking in on her all day! Kind of addicting in a very random way!

9. I find THIS illustrator fascinating!

10. Speaking of illustrators, THIS one is amazing! In another lifetime I do lettering as cool as she does!

Happy Shopping!

art?

Hopping up on my soapbox for a minute…

I just have to say how sick I am of seeing photographers post photos like this:

And call it ART!

Because they do! They make it sound all dreamy and amazing that they got this shot. And I am FOR SURE not naming names but it kinda disappoints me that photographers I love are jumping on this bandwagon. Like this is the new cool technique or something. Like selective color used to be (don’t even get me started on how much I HATE selective color… you know when the photo is b/w except a flower or something!) or sepia or cyborg eyes. It’s a fad but that’s the worst part… it’s just bad photography if you ask me.

Because I am here to tell you, they just screwed up. They lost their focus and are making people think they are brilliant or something. But DUDE, I took this photo and it was a SCREW UP!

It drives me insane BUT I’m putting it out there to ask all of you… do you buy into this like this and call it artistic work? Or just bad photography?

Thoughts?

Am I the crazy one?

Remember all of our Shoot for Seamus photos? The cute families in the alley, the adorable babies in the NICU and the fun behind the scenes?

There were just a few shots we haven’t shown you yet!

And MAN OH MAN have we been anxious to show you these!

In my opinion, they are the best way to brighten up a pretty dreary Tuesday!

ENJOY!

———————————–

Meet Tom.

Tom Johnston that is. Of Kirkwood.

Who turns 40 this year.

Tommy to some.

Papa Bear to others.

Husband to Sharon.

Dad to Seamus.

Afraid of the dark and chick flick lover.

Ok. That last part might not be true.

He does have a lot of chest hair though.

And maybe some on his back. Just sayin’.

He’s also become one of our best friends.

And Chris and I love him (and Sharon!).

LOVE YOU TOM! Pay backs are hell I’m sure but this was totally worth it! HA!

Harper | St. Louis Newborn Photographers

Posted on May 10, 2010

On Mothers Day, we got to hang out with 6 day old little Harper…

This was one anticipated little girl! You might remember her story HERE. It was so amazing to see Amy with a baby in her arms, for Colton to have a sister and for Jim to be the Daddy to a little girl. It was the PERFECT way to spend our Mother’s Day!

Seriously, is she not gorgeous??  And she was so sleepy!  Which is great for us, like putty in our hands!

This is also a great time to share that we have big plans to expand our offerings for newborns!  We will still be offering the full Fresh Art newborn & maternity experience, which includes us coming to your home, but beginning in June we’ll also be able to offer studio newborn sessions.  Not only will this allow us to reduce the rate for someone who is only wanting a newborn session or willing to come to us, but also allow us to be able to photograph more newborns.   Win, win!  Jodie & I will be busy getting ready a dedicated studio space in her home and we couldn’t be more excited!  More details soon!
