Sam | St. Louis Newborn Photographers

Posted on July 29, 2010

Poor Elizabeth has been waiting all week to see her sneak peek of Sam! And I hate to tell our clients this, but the days of getting your sneak peek up the same day as the session might be over! Kim is gearing up to chase SEVEN children from school to school and I’m working my tush off at Kuhn all day. So like Elizabeth, it might be a few extra days but we promise you’ll just love them that much more!

And to Elizabeth… who has been SO SO patient… thank you!

Now I have to start with this photo because the entire session we were laughing SO hard at Sam’s little grumpy old man face! He was hysterical! So Kim and I had to revamp a few of our original ideas so he was on his back more than up like that so he didn’t look so unhappy!

It was great for me to meet Elizabeth because I’d heard so many amazing things about her from Kim! She used to nanny for Kim but it’d been a while since Kim had seen her or her family. Kim loved having Sam’s big brother Gus there b/c he wasn’t much bigger than Sam the last time she saw him! And after Gus had his turn with the camera Bailey was SO proud to get to go upstairs to our playroom and “babysit” Gus (with his Aunt up there the whole time as well!).

We love having the studio in my home because our clients can let their older kids go play in the playroom with my kids if they’re home or without them if they’re not… makes for a much more casual shooting environment and I love how my work is so much a part of my home as well!

It was a fun morning and thank again Elizabeth for being so patient this week! We hope you loved your sneak peek!

Reese | St. Louis Newborn Photographers

Posted on July 25, 2010

Kim and I ADORE sleepy babies! And tiny little Reese was no exception! She slept through the entire session so we were able to bounce her around from pose to pose so quickly it was incredible! What we got done in a couple of hours would normally take FOREVER but she was a rock star!

What made the session more fun was that I’ve known Reese’s mom, Alison, since we were kids. I spent many nights at her house, traveled with her family and have a million great memories from my childhood with her! And it’s always incredible to see your old friend become a new mom! Alison seems to be taking new mommy-hood in stride because she’s such a natural and relaxed mom!

And I’m so glad she let us capture her nursing… such an intimate moment that in the end is so fleeting! One day I will find the images my friend Emily took of me nursing Gray and share them here… some of my favorite times as a momma! Now get ready for a whole lot of images! It was too hard to decide which to leave out of their sneak peek!

Thanks for coming to the studio Alison and Nick! It was so great to meet Reese and capture these first days for you!

And if you LOVE monogrammed and appliqued clothing check out Alison’s work HERE! We use her exclusively! You’ll see my kids all over the site!

Stella and Oliver | St. Louis Family and Maternity Photographers

Posted on July 24, 2010

Tonight we braved the heat to photograph the Boisclair family at a local park… but OH. MY. GOSH.

This was hot. As in 95 degrees at 7:30pm with a heat index of 110!

After 30 minutes we had NO idea what we had but with two babies and a very pregnant momma we had to call it quits just due to the heat! We were all DRIPPING wet and just gross! So I got home and just prayed we got something! Anything! And although we couldn’t fill a whole session maybe, we don’t have to because it was a mini maternity session! And I was so pleasantly surprised at what we got I just had to get them up here tonight!

Thanks for coming out tonight despite the awful weather you guys!

Stella was hysterical and just NEVER stopped the entire time we were there! Constant running and chattering! While Oliver was the exact opposite! Isn’t walking yet and pretty darn quiet too! I hate to say this to moms but Katie, you are going to have your hands full! HA!

Oliver. Content to sit but not super into giving us smiles! Super sweet though and let me carry him all the way back to the car!

Stella. Constant motion! Constant! And not super confident with walking so it was hysterical to watch her drunken little walk all night! Well, all 30 minutes we survived the heat!

We met Katie at one of our Fresh Classes and during this shot I asked her what type of light I was working with… she started laughing and said she couldn’t believe I was quizzing her in 110 degree heat during her photo shoot! HA! Sorry Katie!

Thanks Matt and Katie! You guys were such troopers! We can’t wait to meet your little man next month!

finding my balance.

Posted on July 23, 2010

Bear with me.

I am one week in at my new job and so far am finding the balance between Fresh Art and KCCI a challenge. Not to mention keeping the house together and being a good mom+wife+daughter+friend+sister.

Today…

Chris left at 7:30am. I fed the kids breakfast, cleaned the table and got them dressed. We straightened the house. I rearranged their clothing (got a ton of amazing hand-me-downs this week! Thanks Amy!) and cleaned out their drawers. I got dressed and washed my face+brushed my teeth (finally). We headed up to my parents house so I could take photos of a project for their blog. The MacBrydes met us over there so I could get some quick photos of their kids. One hour, lots of sweat and tons of photos later we headed home. Detoured to McDonald’s so I could get an ice tea b/c I choose, of course, the busiest week of my life to give up soda. Cold turkey. We did an art project (details on that soon over at Jodified). Had a snack. I ate an early lunch. Went to the library where the girls got their first library cards (I had them copy the applications for me for the summer scrapbook!). We picked out books and signed up, crazy late, for the summer reading program. Went home and put a book-on-CD on for them while I made lunch. They sat quietly and listened (my kids LOVE audio books!). We ate a picnic lunch in the living room and I read the library books. The last book we read was about a kid who painted themselves so we finished lunch, I mixed some tempra paint and we went outside to paint our bodies. The kids painted, I photographed it (will show up at Jodified later) and they ended up with a hose-washing party. Went inside, cleaned up and started naps. I ran to the shower, debriefed Chris on our day from the shower when he got home and am now at KCCI getting ready to start work. I will work here for 4 hours before I pick up Kim for an evening maternity shoot.

It’s almost 2pm, I’m exhausted and on no caffeine!

SO.

All that to say.

I am trying really hard to be good for everyone. My kids, Fresh Art and KCCI. And everyone else in my life.

But it’s going to take me a little time to balance it all out.

I’ve gotten a million emails and I will respond as soon as possible. If you are due to receive our welcome packet I am still waiting on one piece from our lab (they messed it up TWICE in the last two weeks) but it’s coming, I swear. All orders should be out but if I’m missing someone’s please let me know. If you called I might have forgotten b/c I suck at phone calls right now so please try again.

I’m trying.

And now you know why slowing down Fresh Art will be good for us all! If we’re shooting 4 families a month as opposed to 20 I will actually be able to keep track of them and give them the attention they deserve!

Thanks for your patience while my life is in the air, you have NO idea how much I appreciate it!

Hoping to update Jodified this weekend with all the happenings of late so check in there if you want photos of my kids (mom and Terri!) and otherwise have a great weekend!

Some big changes here at Fresh Art.

Posted on July 21, 2010

I wanted to pop in tonight to let everyone know that we’re making some big changes. Starting, well, now!

The biggest change is that I got a new job.

I know right?

I’ve always done marketing, PR and design work for my parent’s company, Kuhn Const. Co. Inc. on the side but now I’m taking a more active role in the company. I’ll be working there nearly full time starting immediately.

What this means for me personally is a much busier life! Less time with my kids BUT extra money for our family so we can save up to buy a home! It’s going to be a sacrifice but a really huge blessing as well. And I really LOVE working with/for my parents! We get along great and they’re just as excited as I am about the ideas I have for their business!

What this means for Fresh Art is that we will be taking LIMITED sessions starting, well, NOW! We will only be shooting a few times a month which means our calendar will be filling up quickly!

If you want to schedule a newborn, family, senior or any kind of session with us before Christmas please email us right away! We will be limiting the sessions and that means ALL the sessions! If we fill up the schedule with newborns then we won’t take any family sessions… this will be the biggest issue come fall i think when everyone wants their Christmas card photos!

Speaking of Christmas cards, we will be working with the incredibly talented Russ Mohr on a mini session designed around his custom Christmas cards this year! No details finalized just yet but they’re coming soon and I guarantee those sessions will fill up FAST so email me if you want to get on a wait list for the minis… the ONLY minis we’ll be hosting the rest of the year!

And one last announcement… we will be changing some of our pricing a bit since we won’t be working as much so if you want to be guaranteed the current pricing please book soon!

This is a big change for us but both Kim and I are looking forward to stepping back a little after a very busy first year together! We’re excited to book clients that love our work and have more time to devote to designing their sessions down to the last detail! We’re also excited to be able to just spend more time on our clients and not feel rushed or behind all the time anymore.

I hope you all understand my need for this new job and this new journey my family is on, and ultimately, we both are certain that this is the best move for Fresh Art as well!

If you’d like to inquire about a session please email me at jodie@freshartphotography.com.
