Prayers for Kim today.

Posted on June 28, 2011

As we speak Kim is at the hospital doing something most women would LOVE to do! She’s having a little cosmetic surgery to nip and tuck her tummy after a year where she lost SEVENTY pounds! After seven kids I think anyone would want a little tummy tuck! Heck, after three kids I’d love one!

So although this is elective and she’s excited, it’s still surgery and I’d love for you guys to send out a little prayer that her doctors have steady hands and extra caffeine today!

Kim has been reluctant to talk about her weight loss because she’s the most humble person you’ll ever meet… but you guys… she’s rocked it out this year! And she looks AMAZING! As soon as her swelling goes down and she’s back to normal, or to her NEW normal, I’m going to make her let me photograph her so you can see a “before” and “after”! She’s always been beautiful but now that SHE feels beautiful it’s like she glows! I’ve loved watching her transform herself and gain confidence this year… it’s been an incredible inspiration to me!

So Kim, my friend, good luck today! Enjoy the rest and I pray the pain is tolerable. I think what you’re doing is awesome and you should be so proud of yourself for how far you’ve come this year!

Megan and Corey | St. Louis Maternity Photography

Posted on June 26, 2011

I guess I can’t really say enough about the cool weather we’ve been having here! Because the night we met up with Megan and Corey it was beautiful again! We’ve had the best week of sessions and haven’t sweat through one of them! HA!

Megan and Corey were so awesome and so easy going, even when we made her change behind trees in the middle of a park! Love a girl who isn’t super self-conscious!

Oh, and because we love maternity sessions I thought I’d share some of our (recent) favorites (that we didn’t shoot of course!)… HERE and HERE and HERE! You’re welcome for the eye candy!

I am obsessed with this shot of Megan that Kim caught! IN LOVE!

Aren’t they adorable? Enjoy the rest of your pregnancy Megan! We’ll see you guys soon with a little one in tow!

Lucy | St. Louis Newborn Lifestyle Photographers

When Tonya contacted us she let us know that she loved our work but really wanted a more natural newborn session. Lifestyle. A lifestyle newborn session. Have you heard of those?

If you’re a photographer, you have, but if you’re not, it might be a new term so let me break it down. HERE is a studio newborn session and HERE is a lifestyle newborn session. Studio HERE and lifestyle HERE. STUDIO. LIFESTYLE. Get it?

SO Tonya and Tim wanted lifestyle but then the week of the shoot they decided that us coming to their home wouldn’t work because their sweet little Lucy is kind of a fussy baby. Or at least she doesn’t love taking baths or hanging at home doing the things they wanted to capture! Luckily, Tonya had a great idea to go to a local park because Lucy loves being outside. And OH MY GOSH it was such a beautiful night! The weather has been amazing BUT of course, for a newborn, cooler temps aren’t exactly what they’re looking for! I will admit there were some tears but even so, the images we were able to capture are so joyful!

Leaving the session Kim and I were laughing because we really prefer studio newborn sessions so going into this we weren’t sure what to think, but we really loved it! These two LOVE and ADORE their little girl and it was fun to concentrate on that connection for a change! Not paying as much attention to the baby was a major change for us BUT like I said, watching+capturing the interaction and love this family shares was incredible.

Tonya and Tim, thank you so much for trusting us to step outside our box and capture your family. We are so honored you chose us and hope you love your sneak peek!

Thanks again Tim, Tonya, Baxter and Lucy! Such a fun evening!

ps… all photographer links are for photogs we respect and whose work we love!

Kelly and Shaun | St. Louis Maternity Photography

Posted on June 25, 2011

The weather in St. Louis has been so beautiful! It definitely doesn’t even feel like summer around here! And the night we got to photograph Kelly and Shaun it was GORGEOUS. SO amazing in fact that I wished I had worn a sweater because once the sun went down it was actually kind of chilly! That is incredible!

Aside from the awesome weather we also had a blast with the Buck’s. It was so great to meet them after Kelly and I had emailed each other for so long. They are having us photograph their birth so we’ll get to see them again in just a couple of weeks! Photographing someone’s birth is so special and we are so honored to be able to be a part of them welcoming their baby girl to the world. While they wait for her to arrive though, we hope they enjoy these images!

I mean seriously. Could Kelly be any more beautiful? Kim and I were laughing because they have such a huge gallery… it was just too hard to NOT include them all! She’s gorgeous!

Did I mention Katie Mohr, our AMAZING stylist, was with us? Kelly hired her to help her chose outfits (Katie goes days/weeks before the session to their house to help pick from the closets or take them shopping!) and be at the session to help with hair, posing, etc. And KATIE rocked it out! We love Katie!

One of our favorite maternity images ever! Kelly you are GORGEOUS!

Waiting for the call you’re in labor!

And we know THEY know we love them! So I’m going to show you their sweet new son and hit my pillow!

The Blazer Family | St. Louis Family Photographers

Posted on June 21, 2011

What we love about photographing newborns, among other things, is that we get to plan ahead. Kim and I are both sort of control freaks and we always get to our studio an hour before a newborn session to plan out our shots, get props ready, try new ideas, etc. Then when the family gets there we have plan A, plan B and scrap-it-the-baby-won’t-ever-sleep plan C! We try to be organized and on top of it.

The beauty of working with families is the total and complete opposite of everything I just said! HA! We could have the most amazing shot planned out but when you’re dealing with little kiddos you just NEVER know what will happen! And of course, Caroline and Julia didn’t disappoint! They are some of the most beautiful little girls you’ll ever meet with the sweetest personalities to boot… they just weren’t totally into doing what anyone asked of them!

Stand together and smile? HA! So not happening.

So about 10 minutes into the session I knew we had to scrap ALL plans of ALL shots and just go with the flow. Follow the family. Let them just BE. Encourage play. Keep an eye on lighting but otherwise just let them go. And the result? One of my favorite family sessions ever! Simply because of the diversity. They could fill a huge album or an awesome wall gallery with these images because not one is the same or even close! I love that! As I plan the decor for our new house (we close on Monday!) I’m dreaming of a session like this filling our little downstairs hallway! Thanks Rachel and Matt for the inspiration!

This is a long blog post because I want you to see how much fun we had with this family… and to show you that not one of these images are perfect. But they are totally perfect in their imperfection!

These dresses were made by Grandma! Total heirlooms!

Thanks to Rachel, Matt, Caroline and Julia! It was such a great morning and we can’t wait for you to see all the rest of your images!
