Eliza | St. Louis Newborn Photography

Posted on June 17, 2011

We LOVED meeting Eliza and her family!

1. Because they are awesome and 2. because we’ve photographed her aunt many times before and she came to the session! SO fun to work with families! Molly+Bridie it was so fun to see you both and watch you interact as sisters!

We had two sessions today with one more tomorrow which brings this week’s session total to SIX. In four days. And that means I’m exhausted so I’m going to SHUSH and show you this cute baby! With so many more sneak peeks to come soon!

Isn’t she adorable? SO sweet!

THANK YOU Straumann family (and Bridie!)! We really loved meeting you guys (and seeing you Bridie!)!

the Brawner family | St. Louis Family Photographers

Posted on June 15, 2011

Last night we got to meet up with Jessica, Dan, Truman and Remy! Such a sweet family with two super busy kids (ages 2 and 3) who gave Kim and I a run for our money! We’ve gotten so used to newborns a family was quite the change of pace! It was so fun to run around Laumier Sculpture Park (where Dan proposed to Jessica so it was special to them!) with this family on the nicest night we’ll have all week! Thanks for allowing us to chase you around for an evening! HA!

It’s been a while since we got to photograph a family and we have three this week! SO FUN! Thanks Brawner family!

front porch light.

Posted on June 11, 2011

When we teach our class, The Fresh Class, one thing we talk about is light. But of course when we have three hours to teach ALL the manual settings, light and composition take a backseat and we just barely touch on them. Which is why we’re so excited to offer our new The Fresh Class – Shoots which is an extension of our first class because we will NOT be talking about camera settings (unless we’re sharing what our settings are)… instead we’ll be talking more and more about light and composition and telling a story with your images and well, just the best way to capture your children. Once we chose a date in July we’ll talk more about what we’ll cover in the new class!

For now… to all our moms (and dads! Hi Billy!) that have already taken our class and heard us talk about how GORGEOUS porch light is… behold!

This light, front porch light, is just amazing. It lights the skin SO beautifully, makes the eyes sparkle and lets the background darken a bit naturally which emphasizes your subject. If you have a front porch, back porch or garage… set up an art project or bubbles or water play in order to capture your kids in this beautiful light! Stage them a little so you capture them doing something they love in a natural setting but with better light than if you were in the middle of the harsh light of your front yard.

I hope this makes sense.. and if not leave your questions in the comments and I’ll try to answer them!

And YES I said we were taking a blogging break but as we’re lying in our hotel room watching a movie I was editing personal images and came across this one so I thought I’d pop on and share! I hope this helps even a tiny bit for your personal images to look their best!

Taking a break.

Posted on June 11, 2011

I am writing to you from a HOTEL room with NO children around! YAHOO! Chris and I got away for the weekend to a Christian Coaching conference (CTO) and it’s been fabulous so far! Meeting new people (like Adam Wainwright and Grant Williams), learning a ton AND enjoying a few days KID FREE! Amazing!

Kim is also out of town enjoying time with Bill and their oldest, Abby while the rest of her brood is hanging at home with Grandma!

AND.

We’re buying a house. And I’m starting a new job soon (not leaving Fresh Art, just my parents construction company). And we have to paint+rip out carpet+buy appliances+MOVE by the first week of July.

SO.

The blog may be a little empty for a while. And we may take a little longer to answer emails (who knew buying a house was so complicated? wow!). So please be patient with us (mainly me!) because there is a whole lotta change happening around here! I can’t wait to show you our HOME though and tell you about my new job!

For now… just enjoy the heck out of your summer! We’re running our kids so hard even Bailey is taking summer naps! I love this shot of her sound asleep last week! It just screams happy summer days to me!

A Father’s Day gift idea.

Posted on June 8, 2011

My sweet friend Adriane was making her husband the most amazing gift for Father’s Day but she was trying to design it in Word or Power Point or something! So I asked if she wanted my help because you know, Photoshop and Illustrator are WAY better than Word for design!

What she gave me was this tiny slip of paper they keep up on their fridge… words they created themselves… words that are daily reminders for them in their marriage. I love it.

I ordered it as a 10×20 standout mount and luckily, she loves it!

What I love about this is that anyone could do this! You could make it by hand if you don’t have good design software and handwriting would make it even more personal!  I’d love to sit down with Chris and make our own list of daily reminders. And then I’d want to print it huge for our bedroom or kitchen or something.

Anyway, I thought her idea was so sweet I just had to share!
