bad dreams | personal

Gray is going through some kind of I-don’t-want-to-sleep-in-my-own-bed-and-am-going-to-pull-out-all-the-stops-until-you-cave stage. Let me tell you, it’s awesome. Tonight he even had real crocodile tears when he came down telling us he was having bad dreams. Now the kid hadn’t gone to bed yet so bad dreams were impossible but his tears were so big and he’s so damn cute we gave in. Chris tucked him into our bed and we didn’t hear another word from him. An hour or so later I went in to get something and found he had turned the light on all by himself.

Oh and at dinner tonight Parker totally cracked us up! Chris was teasing her and said, “Birthday’s aren’t super important when you’re just turning three…” and she said, “DADDY! I’m not turning three! I’m turning six and then eleven and then eight and then one hundred and then I’ll be dead!” HA! Gotta love her math!
Here’s to a great start to your week!

The Allen Family (no relation!) | St. Louis Family Photography
Posted on April 22, 2012
My BFF Angie met another Allen family and they’ve become good friends this year. At first I was kind of jealous. Because if you know me you know I can be totally immature sometimes. This other ALLEN family just sounded so perfect! SO I truly wanted to dislike them. But the first time I met Becky I knew I was done for. I actually really liked her! She is sweet and giving and caring and gorgeous. Her kids are just as great and so is her husband. Their daughter, Grace, plays soccer with Bailey (and Angie’s daughter, Kate) so we’ve gotten to know them a little better this spring and I’m just so so glad. There are so few families that you click with, I think. Or ones whose kids you really truly like to be around! Or whose parenting style and discipline is on par with your own. Now, I don’t know them that well but from what Angie’s told me, all those things line up. So while I was trying to hate them before, now I’m just so glad that not only does Angie’s family have another set of really great friends, but I’m just as blessed to know them as well.
I can’t tell you the last time I had a session, edited it and blogged it on the same day, but I couldn’t help myself! This was such an easy and fun session. For an awesome family. And so I’m staying up late tonight to get this posted for them! Because I hope they love these images as much as I do!

See? How can you not totally love this family?
They’re moving soon and Becky mentioned that she wanted some new large canvases for their new walls to celebrate this new chapter in their lives… I hope this new chapter is fun, colorful and full of love+laughter because then these images represent it perfectly!
Thanks (other) Allen family for allowing me to capture you guys today! I had a blast!

Conor | Webster Groves High School Senior
Posted on April 15, 2012
The weather today (super windy and threatening rain all day) canceled the senior session I was supposed to have so I thought instead I would get this senior session blogged! Conor was awesome to work with! Super easy and so nice! And of course he knows my husband, Chris, who teaches at Webster, which always scares me because you never know if a kid is going to love or hate a teacher! HA! Luckily Conor never had Chris but knows and likes him! Whew!

This was such a great session! AND it was my mini session! Sometimes those are so great for seniors because you get enough images and it saves you a little money during an expensive time in life! When we have three kids going to college right in a row I can’t even imagine! Anyway, I’d love to work with more seniors so if you’re interested in either a full or mini sessions please let me know! I can’t wait to reschedule the one that I missed today!
I hope you guys all had a great weekend! I got to shoot a wedding Friday, hang with my sister’s family all day Saturday and be HOME today (after church!). It was a really good good weekend!

Last week Kim and I got to see another one of our Baby Plan babies at his six month mark and MAN did this kid get cute! Not that he wasn’t totally adorable at his newborn session but I love being able to see babies get such huge personalities in such a short amount of time! He was awesome! Totally happy and let both of us hold him! We love that! A total baby fix!

Isn’t he adorable? And with his puppy? SO cute!
Because we love this sweet family (and because we just MIGHT start doing this with all of our sneak peeks!)… if they get 15 comments on this post we’ll gift them a free 8×10!

The Buck Family | St. Louis Lifestyle Photography

I am LOVING the lifestyle sessions I’ve been shooting lately! Actually, I was at a workshop this weekend and one of the main topics was about narrowing your field to help yourself stand out from your competition. And while I do agree, in theory, I just don’t think it’s how I can run my own business. I’m blogging a sweet little lifestyle session tonight and this morning Kim and I had one of our Baby Planners for his sixth month studio session. You can’t get much different than shooting a baby in their home playing, cuddling, being bathed and going for a walk with mom and dad to taking super cute photos, of JUST baby, in our studio. And yet I adore both kinds of photography!
This weekend’s workshop was not exactly what I was expecting and besides meeting new+awesome people the best thing that I came away from it with was that I have to run Fresh Art in a way that makes ME happy. If I’m going to be sitting at my computer or going on sessions every single day I have to be doing what I love. And for me, I love the randomness of my job. I love that this week I get to photograph a sweet baby boy in the studio, a family outside and a soon-to-be graduating senior! I think I would go insane if I ONLY shot families or newborns or seniors. But put them all in a week, give me different locations, different lighting situations, different times of day, etc and I’m one happy camper!
So anyway! On to a few shots from the Buck’s mini session! I have SO many more I could share but since it was a mini session if I share too many I’d give away too much! I need to keep some happy surprises for Kelly and Shaun!

Brooklyn is one lucky little lady! Her mom and dad are truly smitten! And seriously, she is one of the happiest babies I’ve ever seen! It was so neat to see them all in their own home, comfortable and laughing together. What I love the most about lifestyle photography is that my clients invite me into their homes and allow me to see them in such a natural way. There’s such little posing (except that one at the end!) and them just being together doing what they love to do. If I was a super nice photographer I would show them the one of Kelly walking Brooklyn into the kitchen where Shaun had been getting her bath ready because the smile on Brooklyn AND Kelly’s faces are priceless! Man I’m SO mean! HA!
Thanks for inviting me out you guys! I can’t wait for you to see the rest of your photos! Soon friends! Soon!
Happy Monday blogworld!

Sara and Ryan | St. Louis Maternity Photography
Posted on March 30, 2012
I’m out of town this weekend and SO excited about the workshop (my first ever workshop!) that I get to attend tomorrow! And before I go soak in a hot bath, read my book and just RELAX I wanted to get Sara and Ryan’s sneak peek up tonight!
Sara is due in May with their first little babe. I can’t wait to photograph this little person when they arrive BUT it was so much fun to photograph her cute belly too! I haven’t done a maternity session in a while and it was great! Her cuteness factor might have played a part in how much fun it was too! HA! Seriously, you can’t find a sweeter person. I just adore her! And Ryan is pretty great too!

Thanks Ryan and Sara! I can’t wait to meet the little bean!
Now I’m off to my bath and bed! Happy Weekend!

Kane and Stephen | St. Louis Newborn Twin Photography
Posted on March 26, 2012
Kim and I had the best and easiest twin session ever! Normally they take longer than a normal newborn session because getting two little ones to sleep, especially at the same time, can be nearly impossible! But Kane and Stephen made it look SO easy! They slept and ate at all the right times! Nikki and her mom were so awesome and after nursing two babies for almost a week Nikki still looked amazing! I would have been a wreck! She mothers those boys as if she was just designed for it… I’ve never seen a more natural first time mother! It was so incredible to watch and those little men are SO lucky to have her!

Could these boys be any cuter? They were such a dream!
Thanks so much Nikki! We loved meeting you, your mom and your sons! And we can’t wait to see them sitting up at their sixth month session!
Another huge thanks to Erin from Pickles and Ice Cream Baby Planning for referring Nikki to us! If you are in need of a baby planner to help you with all of those tiny details she’s your girl!
